12 London Marathons. 2 Official Guinness World Records. And I’m Going Again.

Hi, I’m Scott Campbell, and this April I’ll be lining up for my 12th London Marathon.

Over the years, I’ve raised thousands of pounds for the RSPCA and, along the way, broken two official Guinness World Records (both running-related). However, what people don’t always see is what it takes to get to the start line.

Most of my 12 marathons have been through charity places, which means committing to a significant minimum fundraising target before race day. On top of that come the very real costs... multiple pairs of trainers, gym memberships, travel, hotels and paid training events in the build-up, as well as hundreds of hours of training squeezed in around work and life.

I don’t say that for sympathy, I choose to do it. I say it because every donation genuinely matters. It helps me hit a required target and, more importantly, supports the RSPCA’s work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals who desperately need it. And fittingly, the London Marathon falls in April, National Pet Month, which makes this the perfect time to support a charity that protects the animals so many of us call family.

Twelve marathons in, the early mornings are still early. The long runs still hurt. The commitment, physically, mentally, financially and in time, is real... but so is the cause.
