Story
We are go for Friday 15 August 2025! After two unavoidable deferrals in 2023 and 2024, I'm now in good shape and raring to take on the mighty Sealand solo crossing on the morning of 15th Aug.
The Principality of Sealand is a dramatic structure located in the North Sea 7 miles (11km) offshore, in clear view of my hometown, Felixstowe. As a lifelong swimmer, born in Felixstowe, the idea of swimming across the shipping lanes back to the Suffolk coast where I learnt to swim as a toddler, has long captured my imagination.
Now, as an experienced swimmer and coach, now's the time to seize the opportunity, push my sea swimming boundaries and take on this tough, iconic challenge.
The Sealand swim, crossing international waters and shipping lanes, requires thorough training, detailed planning and liaison with the maritime authorities. Swimming it under the auspices of Aspire therefore makes it logistically achievable, and allows me to concentrate on the training required to take on this marathon swim.
I consider myself immensely fortunate to be in a position (now aged 60:) to attempt a swim such as this - as a swimming coach I understand the scale of the challenge I'm taking on - it's within my range, but won't be easy. ANY donation you can make will be hugely appreciated and make a massive difference to the lives of people living with spinal injuries.
Thank you so much
