I do usually try do something worth while or achieve something each year on, or near my birthday just to celebrate still being here. Age is a privilege denied to many - as with young Jaxon McKenzie.

Jaxon was just six years old when he was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma - DIPG) on 14th April 2024. After a brave and courageous battle, Jaxon sadly passed away only eight months later, on 14th December 2024.

Jaxon’s Gift was founded by his parents, Ashley and Dave McKenzie, with the mission of supporting other children and families facing similar situations. The charity also aims to give back to the local community that offered the family immense love and support during the most difficult time of their lives.

So this year I’ve decided with the help of a few good friends I’m going to be doing a charity Spar-A-Thon.

The venue is Blackbox Muay Thai , Standhill Industrial Park, 2 Whitburn Road, Bathgate, EH48 2XJ - Time to be confirmed but looking at Mid-Afternoon.

Basically I plan to spar 44 rounds, against a new and fresh opponent every round. It will be one minute rounds with a one minute rest in-between. All names will be put into a hat and drawn to see what round is yours.

SO if you fancy a chance to punch or kick me in the face get yourself signed up and let’s raise some money for a very good charity. This is open to all levels. Male/female, Professional fighters to complete novices. Even my Oscar wants a crack at his old dad 😒. Obviously I will match (or try match) your energy.

We can box, kick box or Muay Thai. Completely up to you when you get In the ring. Even if you would prefer no head shots and just body sparring. It will all be professionally ran, extremely safe (for you) and in very capable hands. Gloves and head guards will be provided. You will need your own gum shield.

All I ask is a bit of commitment and a minimum fee of £10 per person stepping in the ring. Spectators are also welcome but a minimum charge of £5 on entry.

A little boy taken far too soon, but had more fight in his little time on this earth than most will ever experience in theirs. Again life and age is a gift that we all take for granted. Myself included at times.
