As Captain at Castle Royle Golf & Country Club I am aiming this year (March 2025-Feb 2026) to raise as much as possible for research and support to improve awareness, prevention and treatment for Prostate Cancer.

In March 2020 in the same week as Covid led to the first UK lockdown, I received a diagnosis of prostate cancer. It was in an early stage, and with a combination of targeted focal therapies and monitoring, I have been able to effectively manage the cancer. My early diagnosis followed a recommendation of a good friend to take a PSA test and I had no symptoms whatsoever.

Many, including a number of my friends, are not as fortunate, with late diagnosis requiring more radical treatments and consequences for their quality of life and life expectancy.

Awareness and early diagnosis of what is often a symptomless condition can make such a dramatic difference to outcomes. But even with a later stage diagnosis, treatments over the last decade have been transformed and offer the possibility of far better outcomes for those diagnosed later.

Prostate Cancer UK is helping tackle the single greatest cause of cancer in men in the UK today.
