Story
On Sunday 1st September, a number of friends & family are running the Altrincham 10k in support of our friend Sean who is currently battling Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). This page has been set up in support of everyone running or fundraising.
Sean is only 30 years old, a Husband to Grace and Father to his two beautiful girls who are 2 and 1 years old. Sean is also a Son, Brother, Uncle, family member & fantastic friend to so many of us.
Just over 10 weeks ago, Sean wasn’t feeling too well. After a trip to the doctors, he was sent to A&E as a precaution where after tests, Sean and Grace received the devastating diagnosis of AML. Sean was rushed to the Blood Cancer ward @ the MRI Hospital in Manchester and put straight into isolation before beginning treatment. This led to Sean not being able to see his children for nearly two months.
After battling through his first round of chemotherapy, Sean was able to have a Home Stay before he headed back into hospital & isolation to battle through his next round of chemotherapy treatment and continue on the tough journey ahead.
We’re now in search of a Stem Cell donor for Sean to have a life-saving stem cell transplant following his chemotherapy. Following this, Sean will be required to undergo rehabilitation to aide his recovery.
We’d therefore like to use this page to spread awareness of the Stem Cell donor register & raise money for the Anthony Nolan charity.
Anthony Nolan charity is an organisation dedicated to supporting blood cancer patients & exploring new cell therapies. They aim to give families a future by growing the Stem Cell register, carrying out groundbreaking research and providing the best post-transplant care. The organisation has already done so much in supporting Sean to find a stem cell match.
Someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer every 14-20 minutes. It is quick, easy and painless to sign up to be a stem cell donor and all that's required is a cheek swab which is stored in a database. If you are a match, you will be called upon and could help save a life. If you're aged 16-30 you can register with the Anthony Nolan register or if you're aged 17-55 you can register with DKMS.
