Grand slam for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Seb Lea-Griffiths is raising money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Whitby Whalebones

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

The Team was established in 1965 and normally has around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year.

The team are all volunteers; they have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. They are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.

As a former team member (Buxton) I have first hand experience of how hard the team works .Be it out on the hill conducting rescues or undertaking rigoerous training . This includes an annual competency for casualty care .

Throw in some fundraising events and you have a role which could very well be a full time paid one !

So to pay back to the team who are unsung hero's I am doing the following events

Whitby whalebones 22 miles walk on May 4th

Nidderdale walk 15 miles on 18th May

The Lets Run pathfinder 15 miles self navigated on 12th October
