Story

Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis.

It raises awareness and sparks the question: ‘What is sepsis?’ In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.

My story: In January 2024, my dad contracted sepsis due to an infection which stemmed from a hernia in his bowel which he did not know about. He very quickly declined as he went into septic shock and was described as the sickest person in the ICU. His nearest and dearest were told to prepare for the worst. We almost lost him! He was cared for by the amazing staff in Newcastle’s RVI. He was in a coma for 2 and half weeks where he was literally fighting for his life whilst all the machines were keeping his body alive. His inner resilience coinciding with the strength and love of our family being there every second we could… my dad beat the odds and came through. He had numerous rehabilitation and strength building sessions to get him back to the amazing dad we know and love but he got there after some time. It was the worst time for all of us and I wouldnt wish anyone to be in that situation.

Fundraising for sepsis UK is really important and close to my heart. I am taking part in the AJ Bell Great North Run 2026 takes place on Sunday 13 September 2026 to share my appreciation of the help and support my dad received. Please support me in my mission to raise awareness of sepsis UK which is a charity so close to our hearts, every penny can make a massive difference. I love you dad! Thank you x
