Team: Riffs Raffle and Rave for ADHD UK

We are to provide clear information, and warm-hearted support, for those affected by ADHD and ADD. We want to reduce discrimination by increasing awareness and employer understanding. We advocate for political change to increase NHS resources and employment opportunities for those with ADHD and ADD.

Story

I am really excited to become an ADHD UK Ambassador as I feel I have a lot to give to a cause that is close to my heart.

I was diagnosed at the age of 37 with ADHD combined with Autism. This was not a surprise as I always felt like I didn’t fit in with society. I would get frustrated that I couldn’t do simple tasks unless it was last minute. I would often find myself bored alot and would often entertain myself at school becoming the class clown.

I would find it hard to stick to topic unless I found it interesting then I would hyper focus on it and spend all my time with it. Topic’s I was interested in would change frequently and I found it hard to finish projects that I had started.

With all the frustration that I had experienced in life I learnt how to channel my energy into creative Art. I became a singer songwriter, a poet and an author. I would learn new skills all the time but then my attention would always jump to a new idea.

I have always found it difficult to be organised and find myself getting overwhelmed by the normal day to day living. I would procrastinate on things that needed to be done and wouldn’t be able to gain the motivation to complete them. So when I got my diagnosis it was a relief, I didn’t feel lazy anymore. I would find new techniques to manage life.

The main reason I became an Ambassador was because I dont want people walking my path. I want my difficulty’s and accomplishments to mean something. Having ADHD is not all bad you just have to live a little different to everyone else. You need to find your passion and express yourself. Turn your weakness into a strength.

Having ADHD or ADD is a challenge - both for the individual and for the people around them. We are here to help people face the challenge. But we want more than just-about-coping. We want to help people to find their unique way and thrive.

We aim to do that through warm hearted support, quality relatable information, campaigning to raise awareness and empathy, advocating for ADHD/ADD politically, fighting for fair NHS & Education resources, and challenging employers to put in adjustments that work and create ADHD/ADD inclusivity.
