The SET encompass Digital Team are running the Belfast Marathon Relay on Sunday 4th May 2025 for Friends of Kiwoko Hospital
We have entered 2 teams to run the Belfast Marathon Relay 2025, passing the baton over 26.2 miles - running between 4 and 7.5 miles each to complete our marathon!
We are delighted to be running for Friends of Kiwoko Hospital
Kiwoko Hospital is about 50 miles northwest of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. It was started by Dr Ian Clarke, a GP from North Down in 1987, after the civil war in Uganda. It has a catchment area of approximately 1,000,000 and sees nearly 70,000 patients every year through its main general Out Patient Department, ten Specialist Outpatient Clinics, five Inpatient Wards and active Community Based Health Care Programme.
A link was established between the South Eastern HSC Trust and Kiwoko Hospital in 2006, when various employees of the trust began fund raising and arranging for teams to visit each year bringing particular skills and providing encouragement to the Ugandan and ex-pat staff working there. Kiwoko Hospital has also been adopted by the Trust’s chairman as his special charity.
These funds will be used for:
- Kiwoko Hospital's Good Samaritan Fund, funding treatment costs for those who cannot afford to pay. No-one requiring medical help is turned away.
- Staff development and retainment.
- Large costly items which may need repaired or replaced.
- The Hospital has a shortfall in its running costs, only 30–40% of which are covered by patient charges. Friends of Kiwoko Hospital currently covers over half of these costs.
