Story

Big Knit 2023:

Following on from the last 2 years amazing effort during our 'lockdown Big Knit 2021 (£4,348) and the first Big Knit at Cardney Steading in 2022 (£3,781) we are wanting to raise some more funds to help Cyrenians by December 5th 2023!

Here is your chance to support a wonderful charity while securing some great winter woolies for yourself or for Christmas gifts!...with hand knits ranging from Dolly MacLean's sought after socks and Linda Lowrie's fine Shetland shawl to Lindsay Ordway's Teddy Bear (all the way from Wisconsin, USA). There are special knitted toys, rugs, socks and kiddies cardigans, hats, scarves, Xmas tree decorations and lots more!

If you don't fancy or need a knitted item...you can still make a donation!

Background:

The Shades of Amber Big Knit 2023 is a hands-on way of raising funds for our favourite charity. Festival-goers and knitters from afar contribute their time and energy to knit items that are made available in return for a donation, to help show our support in a creative and involving way.

Dougie MacLean's mother Dolly was the Big Knit's first co-ordinator in 2007 and continues to help with the knitting and overseeing of the Big Knit Team that has gradually evolved. Several of Dolly's special hand knit items are once again included in this year's offerings.

This year our Shades of Amber Big Knit will happen once again during our weekend event at Cardney Steading as well as online. We hope to appeal to members of our growing global audience who have enjoyed our Perthshire Amber Festival in the past or our streamed Live Concerts during 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023! We are asking for a donation (with or without one of the special knitted items) from everyone.

How to secure an item:

All the items available (with suggested minimum donation) are numbered and listed on the festival website https://www.perthshireamber.com/booking

Each item will go to the first person who contacts Jenny via email ... admin@butterstone.com  quoting the name and number of the item and confirming that (once they hear back by email from Jenny) they will immediately donate the requested amount (or more) here on this Just Giving site. Remember we will need your full name and postal address to send your package out to, so please include that in the email as well.

Remember... If you don't fancy or need a knitted item...you can still make a donation! Every pound will help...

Cyrenians:

Cyrenians was established in 1968 to find and implement innovative solutions to ending homelessness. We focus on prevention and reaching those at the edge of homelessness, as well as those in crisis and in recovery. Beyond providing direct support to those experiencing street homelessness, we work to prevent homelessness in the first place by alleviating poverty, tackling food insecurity and providing support to families and young people. The projects and services run by Cyrenians include: supported accommodation; outreach support; family mediation; food redistribution; and employability support.
