Sham's fundraiser for Arrhythmia Alliance

Shamaima Hamid is raising money for Arrhythmia Alliance

Team: Team fundraising for Arrhythmia Alliance

Our mission is to make a lasting impact in the health and well being of people in developing countries by reusing pacemakers which are currently thrown away in the UK as waste.

Story

Arrhythmia Alliance Pace4Life will be traveling to Peshawar, Pakistan to provide life-saving pacemaker and device implants to individuals who could not otherwise access care and to train and upskill the local healthcare team.

Arrhythmia Alliance Pace4Life (A-A P4L) is a charity that donates cardiac implantable devices and other medical resources to people in need in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) who otherwise would not be able to afford the lifesaving treatments. We source devices, identify viable clinics in LMIC countries, set up programmes at these clinics and train personnel, organise pacing missions, and provide ongoing online support to those programmes.

As part of the Arrhythmia Alliance Pace4Life (A-A P4L) mission to Peshawar, Pakistan, I will be providing training and clinical support to local healthcare professionals on the safe implantation, programming, and follow-up of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), specifically Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs) and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy with Defibrillator (CRT-D) devices.

These devices are vital in preventing sudden cardiac death in high-risk patients by detecting and correcting life-threatening arrhythmias such as Ventricular Tachycardia and Ventricular Fibrillation, and by improving cardiac function in patients with advanced heart failure. Through hands-on training sessions, case-based discussions, and ongoing remote mentoring, I aim to support the development of a sustainable local pacing and device therapy programme, ensuring long-term impact beyond the mission itself. This initiative is part of A-A P4L’s broader goal to increase equitable access to life-saving cardiac care in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
