A decade ago, I had the immense privilege of accompanying a team of eyecare specialists to Ethiopia carrying out frontline charity work for disadvantaged communities. It was a life-changing experience both professionally and emotionally, and my team and I gained immeasurable insight into the profound realities of poor eyecare health within economically growing countries such as Ethiopia. The rewards were indelibly profound. The experience fostered within me as an eyecare specialist for over thirty years an emotion I hadn't been expecting – the shock of the new – and I was adamant to continue this overseas work as soon as I had another opportunity to do so. A decade later, the communities I visited in 2016 have been ravaged by multiple crises: the Covid pandemic, international conflicts, reduced foreign aid. In light of having seen my own practice through this country's share of recent turbulence, I'm once again prepared to bring insight and dedication to another expedition of vitally important overseas eyecare. To this end, I am joining the SeeKenya team on their trip to Kenya in 2026 and I would be so grateful for your support to make it possible. Each year, SeeKenya runs two eye care clinics, providing high-quality, life-changing care to prevent blindness, restore sight and improve eye health, and bringing hope to more than 1000 people in just two weeks.
