Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. ML1387 served the UK and Allies during WW2 and played an important role in D Day - 6th June 1944 - alongside ML1392 which my father's boat (he was skipper). ML 1387 is the last of the MLs in full wartime condition and all supporters of the HMS Medusa Trust feel she should participate in the 80th Anniversary commemorations in June 2024. This will cost a LOT (fuel etc. to visit Normandy) and they are trying to raise £8000 towards these costs. These are likely to be the last major commemorations of D Day as nearly all the veterans who served have died. Please help if you can.
ML1387/Medusa was the Channel Leader for Omaha Beach on D Day in 1944, so the ships carrying US troops of the 1st Infantry (known as The Fighting First, or Big Red One) and 29th (The Blue and Grey) navigated on Medusa to follow the safe route that had been cleared of mines. My Dad's boat ML1392 (now known as Sarinda!) was Channel Leader for Gold Beach, where British troops landed.
3rd April 2024: With your help my original target of £3000 has been achieved! Thank you!! This money and any additional donations will go to The Medusa Trust to help with their costs of fuel and maintenance, and preserving this historic boat for the future.
