Story
Those of you that knew or heard stories about our Bridge (Nan) will know that she was one of a kind. Unfortunately she ultimately lost her life to this terrible disease in Summer 2022.
Nan used to march us down the park come rain or shine to play racket sports with some rackets she’d had in her garage since 1893. She could never sit still so it only feels right that anything done in her memory would involve moving too much and overdoing it.
We were fortunate to live near a specialist dementia unit in Worcestershire meaning that my Nan avoided being taken to A and E and got the right care, as well as having great support for my family. These centres are few and far between but the work Alzheimer’s Society are doing makes a real difference in this.
Watching my Mum go through all this, visiting the window of my Nan’s care home during Covid, watching her deteriorate and grieving for the person she used to be made me not wish that upon anyone. Having shared my story with others I realised how common this disease is becoming and that our story really isn’t unique. The support Alzheimer’s Society offers and ambitions they have can make this different for others facing what we did as a family.
Donations also accepted in the form of cheers and encouragement to go for a run accompaniment for sections of long runs and food of course.
