Story
My name is Shariefa Mouton from Namibia Im a 30 year old mother of an autistic boy named Elijah, I do not know to whom I'm sending this but with God's grace it will reach an Angel.
I'm a struggling mother financially and emotionally and are pleading for help.
The light of my life was born on 14 July 2021, 3 months earlier than anticipated. Weighing 900gr, he was a tiny helpless but a gorgeous miracle. Pre-eclampsia and hellp syndrome were the reasons Elijah was premature. He was of course immediately put into the NICU in what they call a nest, I could not hold, touch, feed or comfort him, which broke my heart. From the state hospital we had to move Eli to a private hospital as Eli picked up blood infection.
During the stay in the hospital, the following was established
-The left leg did not receive enough blood and the doctors said they might have to amputate. Fortunately the right blood platelets arrived and Eli can now walk on two legs.
-A lung infection then made his live even more difficult, with mucus being sucked out of his tiny lungs, that were still trying to develop.
-From 900gr Eli went down to 700gr.
After 4 weeks under a heater in a nest in the NICU, he was moved to the incubator for 4 more weeks, a fighter that should have not even been born yet.
-Eli forgot how to breath and ever so often he needed to get oxygen.
-His sugar was low, so insulin was administered when necessary.
-End of September we were allowed home, finally. We wereso nervous, what if…..
Not remembering all the dates, but in a nutshell we experienced the following and ended up in the emergency room and hospital for periods of time.
-Elijah did not eat, his heart rate was too high and had difficulties breathing, 2 weeks.
-Breathing difficulties – 1 week
-Lung infection – 2 weeks
Bladder infection
Testing of his intestines, scans and x-rays as he was constipated.
-Bronchitis – one week
-Blood tests throughout
-Ear infection
Confirmed diagnosis were received are
-Asthma
-Astigmatism
-Muscle disorder
-Sleeping disorder
-Anaemia
-Autism (non verbal)
Possible problems
-Needs to be tested for Perthes disease
-Epilepsy
I probably have left out a lot of complications and problems he might have as we are positive that he will conquer and survive all.
We went through and are still going through, a whole lot of emotions.
Financial struggles, as the Medical Aid benefits gets depleted.
Emotional, as we never know what to expect.
Psychological, as this all takes a toll on Eli as well as his family, But we will do whatever it takes, as he is a gift from God and we love him endlessly.
He is very active, funny, obstinate, a handful, short temperd, like his mom, cute, strong and really busy.
Eli had his first opperation at the age of 10 months. Eli does have four (4) more opperation underway which two (2) of them they would like to do as soon as possible. With the medical aid charges it is impossible to afford the operations that's the reason I'm seeking for assistance. Eli need to go for speech and occupational therapy but unfortunately our benefits are depleted.
We are barely surviving, we already sold our vehicle and are now busy selling our house due to medical bills.
Thank you for your time and consideration. May God bless you.
