Story
Hello there,
You may have heard of the catastrophic four days of monsoon rain, lightning and winds that devastated the area of Pelion in Greece at the beginning of September. Well, it has happened again. Another catastrophic deluge with thunder and lightning last Wednesday - the 27th. People have died and gone missing, houses and cars literally washed away - entire hillsides have collapsed. There is no electricity or running water, huge chunks are out of the roads meaning that people are unable to leave their homes or receive help. The main city of Volos has been ravaged.
The Kentavros Dog Shelter near the town of Argalasti in Pelion is home to over 70 rescue dogs. It is now a disaster zone and urgently needs help to rebuild it. For days, a lone woman, Anika, and her small team of volunteers (all young girl WOOFERS), fought on their own to save the dogs, some of whom were totally terrified by the non-stop thunder, lightning and deluge. More rain fell in Pelion in one day than ever recorded in Greece for a whole year. And that was just the first day.
We are fundraising to help repair and rebuild the shelter, via our charity, PAWS, (registered in the UK - charity number 1156665). If you can donate, please mark your donation 'Help shelter', so we know where to allocate it. These are our details:
