Story
This September, I'm taking on the Apex Everest Challenge: a 48-hour endurance event where participants summit Helvellyn, in the lake district multiple times, cumulatively matching Mount Everest's elevation of 8,848m. It's not about the climb; it's about supporting the High Performance Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping young people build resilience and confidence through free, teacher-designed resources.
The Foundation focuses on building mental health resilience, enhancing employability skills, and promoting social mobility among young people. Through their free programme, they provide teachers with high-impact resources that bring the experiences of top performers into classrooms, helping students tackle challenges not typically addressed in the standard curriculum.
This event is part of a series of challenges I'm taking on this year, including the Leeds Marathon in May and the Lakeland 50 Ultra Marathon in October. I do this to balance growing a business, being a dad, and maintaining my own physical and mental health.
I believe in driving positive change that benefits people and communities, both in business and in everyday life. Supporting the High Performance Foundation aligns with my objective of helping to bring about meaningful change and empowering the next generation. Sometimes, I do this as a volunteer psychotherapist and through the fantastic work we deliver at Perform Partners. However, these challenges are personal and underpinned by my belief that the obstacle becomes the way, and the map is not the terrain.
