Story

Shauna's Marathon 2025

I’m excited (petrified) to announce that I will be running the London Marathon in April 2025!

Why I’m Running

A few years ago I ran a couple of half marathons and at the end said I would never do a full marathon. This year I put my name down in the work ballot thinking I wouldn't get a place, but the odds were not in my favour. So now after over two years of not running, it's time to buy some new trainers and start training!! I thought this would be a good chance to raise money for Epilepsy Action.

Why Epilepsy Action?

I chose this charity as in March 2021 my husband Dean had his first seizure, followed by many more over the next few years. This impacted our lives massively: he lost his driving licence, was unable to work for almost 3 years as well as taking medications daily, giving him numerous side effects.

Nothing can prepare you for the panic or how you feel when you see somebody having a seizure for the first time. Many people have no idea what to do or how to help. I would love to raise awareness of recognising a seizure, knowing how to deal with it and when to seek medical help

In June 2023, after many seizures, appointments, scans, hospital admissions and medication adjustments, Dean had brain surgery to remove the Cavernoma.

Dean returned to work in Feb 2024 after being seizure free for a year. In October 2024 he also got his driving licence back. Life is starting to get back to normal for Dean but he still has to take various medications every day, but we are hopeful he will remain seizure free.
