Story

🌟 Bonnie’s little lights walk 🌟

This November, me and my little family are hosting a little lights walk in order to fundraise for the amazing charity Bliss.

What is a little lights walk?

Bliss Little Lights is a sponsored walk with lanterns, fairy lights or anything that helps you shine, to light the way for the 90,000 babies that are cared for in neonatal units every year in the UK.

When and where is this taking place?

Our little lights walk will be held on the 17th November 2024 at 5:30pm. This date is significant to our family and to Bliss - it’s world prematurity day!! We will be aiming to do a round trip around the tredworth, White City and robinswood area 🙂

Why have we chosen Bliss?

Bliss exists to give every child born premature and/or sick in the uk the best chance at survival. It was founded in 1979 by a group of parents who discovered that no hospital had all the equipment necessary nor the trained staff to safely care for premature and sick babies.

They champion their right to receive the absolute best care by supporting families through these difficult times, supporting professionals and enabling life changing research!

Bliss also campaigned from 2019 with the aims of introducing extended parental leave for parents whilst their baby is receiving neonatal care, so that parents can spend the time they need to with their baby. As a result of their amazing dedication - The Neonatal Care (Leave and pay) Bill which was introduced by Stuart McDonald MP reached Royal assent in may 2023 Meaning it is now law!!

As most of you all know by now we have had the most awful of journeys with Bonnie since the day she was born. We have gone to hell and back during these past four months, dealing with things we had never even imagined possible. Bonnie’s care has been so attentive and every single doctor, nurse, HCA, surgeon etc that has cared for her deserves the absolute world! On multiple occasions they have saved our little girls life. Bliss plays a massive part in that, without the life changing research and dedication they put into changing the way prem/sick babies are treated - most of Bonnie’s care might not have even been possible! During all of this, it’s quite understandable that we have needed support physically, emotionally and financially. Bliss have been right there in our darkest moments with their support, kindness and compassion. They also have quick, ready-to-access support and information which has been so useful for us.

Please please help us give back to them so that they can continue to support parents and families like ourselves who are facing the darkest of times. They really do put every prem/sick baby at the forefront of their work.

Even if you cannot donate, please share or spread the word so that we can continue to raise awareness! Every little helps!

Thank you for reading this far, we really appreciate your time 🤍

Big love,

Shell, Shane, Luca & Bonnie-Lou x
