Shelley's South West Coast Path Marathon

Shelley Edwards is raising money for South West Coast Path Association

Trail Marathon from Clovelly to Bude · 6 June 2026

It costs £1,700 per year for every mile of the glorious South West Coast Path to be kept open, safe and clearly signed. We’re asking for your support to help us keep the path open and accessible for all.

Story

The milestone of turning 40 was huge for me. It made me reevaluate my life and what I actually want out of it as I wasn’t living authentically and had completely lost myself. So I’ve gone back to the things that make me happy; my music and being as active as possible. I always thought walking and running were terribly boring as a child but as an adult they bring me so much joy. Having always loved the ocean, a coastal path was so appealing. I had read the salt path but knew I had too many commitments to go and walk it all in one go. So here I am, having already covered 369 miles of the 630 miles south west coast path; either by walking or running, with friends or family or on my own in small(ish) sections.

This is my biggest challenge yet though; a marathon. And not any old road marathon (which doesn’t appeal to me). This includes 2,000m of elevation from Clovelly to Bude in North Devon. Since the start of the year I have strictly followed a training plan, running over 50km some weeks and have proven to myself that I can be discliped and have not touched a drop of alcohol in my commitment to this challenge.

I wasn’t going to fundraise as I didn’t want to ask people for money in what are tough times, but if I can give back to the coastal path that has given me so much then I should. Less than a week to go, I’ve set my target for £369 because that’s a £1 for every mile I’ve covered so far. If you can spare anything I would be so grateful. It costs over £1 million pounds every year to maintain the path and this is due to the intensifying impacts of climate change.

So wish me luck for my ‘Tsunami’ event! I’m looking forward to celebrating after 🍾
