Thank you for taking the time to read my story, I have been a Cancer Nurse for the majority of my nursing career. During this time I have had the pleasure of meeting the most amazing people. Each with their own story to tell, worries to share and wisdom to pass on. The gratitude and kindness that these patients show to us a profession never fails to amaze me and so I have decided that I would like to give something back. Anyone that has attended the Withybush Chemotherapy Day Unit (also know as the Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit) will be familiar with our waiting room. The waiting room, despite being a welcoming place, can become a place of fear, anxiousness and reflection and so I would like to raise money to make our waiting room a more inviting area where the patients can feel more relaxed.
To achieve this I have decided to take on the challenge of the Long Course Wales Swim in Tenby along with my very good friend Gemma Wilson who is also taking on this challenge for charity. It definitely will be a challenge for me as I face my childhood fear in the sea, great whites. Yes I have feared Jaws for many many years and obviously in my mind the Pembrokeshire coast is full of them 🦈. This is in addition to many new found fears that I have discovered since starting training.
These fears however are nothing compared to the fear of what some patients go through so the least I can do is put my big girl pants on and get out there and hopefully raise some money.
Thank you in advance for any donations no matter how small.
Take care everyone and Diolch.
