Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Everyone has felt the effect of cancer at some point in their lives, whether it's personal or someone dear to you. It's an illness & charity close to many people's hearts.
I've had dreadlocks for 24 years. Before that, my head was shaved, at that time my mum was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer & had lost all her hair. She fondly gained the nickname eggyhead! As a family, we are so fortunate & grateful, that 26years on , she's still going strong!
Sadly, that's not always the case. My beautiful mother in law died in 2020 from cancer, she still had some much life & love to give.
Just recently my wonderful uncle died. Last year I knew someone too young in years & someone else too young in soul that also died from cancer. And there have been many more, some unfairly young, all deeply loved & missed. I know you will have similar stories around cancer.
Please do help me raise some money for such an important cause, by giving anything you can. It is all so very thankfully received!
It's interesting how our identity & self confidence can be based on something like our hair. So many have no choice to lose it during treatment, and although it may seem like the least of a person's worries during that time, it can have a big impact.
I'm literally quite attached to my dreadlocks & a lot of you will have only known me with this "image". I have no idea how my hair is these days.....probably much greyer for one! It's only hair, yet it can mean so much!
So, they're coming off, I'll be back to a shaved head, and hopefully Cancer Research will have gained something!
Thanking you deeply, Shelly xx
