Story
When I was growing up, my mum battled Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
It was a really hard time for my family and without a life-saving stem cell transplant and bone marrow transplant, she wouldn’t be here today.
Not many people know about this science and treatment. Mum still lives with major side effects every day and by running this marathon, I want to raise awareness and push myself on my biggest challenge yet.
Anthony Nolan is the charity that unites people and science – matching stem cell donors to those with blood cancers and blood disorders in need of transplants and treatments. Their register of almost a million potential donors means more people can find the lifesaving match they need.
Over the last 50 years the charity has been working at the cutting edge of cell therapies and made incredible progress. Now, thanks to their world-leading register, their pioneering cell and gene therapy research and their expertise in stem cell transplants, Anthony Nolan currently helps four patients a day in need of a transplant, giving more people another chance to live.
But there is so much more that can, and must, be done. Not all patients have access to the treatment they need. Many don’t survive. Others have to live with side effects of treatment. Anthony Nolan won’t stop until every patient can not only survive, but thrive.
