Story
We're taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk in memory of Claire McCormack, who sadly passed away due to sepsis last year. It was very unexpected and has been incredibly hard for our family.
Claire was a senior staff nurse at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. She knew the signs of sepsis and what to look out for. She spent her life caring for other people, which makes losing her to sepsis even harder to understand.
She was the life and soul of the party. Always dancing, always laughing, always bringing people together. She made such a big impact on everyone who knew her and she is deeply missed. To us, she will always be our dancing queen.
We are walking as The Turbonators. Turbo was my Claire’s nickname and it was also her dog’s name too. It felt like the perfect name for our team and a nice way to carry her energy and spirit with us on the walk.
We are also doing this to raise awareness of sepsis, because recognising it early really can save lives.
Please look out for the signs of sepsis:
💜 Slurred speech or confusion
💜 Extreme shivering or muscle pain
💜 Passing no urine in a day
💜 Severe breathlessness
💜 Feeling like something is seriously wrong
💜 Skin that is mottled, pale, or discoloured
If you notice these symptoms in yourself or someone else, trust your instincts and get urgent medical help. Ask the question “Could this be sepsis?”
Thank you so much for reading and for any support you are able to give. It really does mean a lot to us.
