Sherry Humphries is raising money for York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity

Altra Yorkshire Marathon 2025 · 19 October 2025 ·

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity raises funds to help make a positive difference in your local hospital - making patients, relatives and visitors feel better and providing a level of care that is beyond that which NHS funding alone could deliver.

Story

I am running the Yorkshire Marathon 2025 for Scarborough Special Care Baby Unit.

Scarborough SCBU care for babies born a little early or babies with other health problems. giving specialised care and support to babies and their families. I hope to raise some funds to help the nurses for whatever they need.

A little bit about me.

I am 38 and a busy mum to 3 teenagers and a dog and I LOVE to exercise, I try to get out running when I can, Marine Drive in Scarborough is perfect for a jolly out in the sunshine and I am quite often in the gym, I play darts when I go out with the other half - I am a better runner than a darts player that is a fact.

I live with my partner Phil and we have a blended family of 5 children, Tommy, Zoe, Summer, Aaron and Harry.

In the Summer of 2024 we got the news we were going to become Grandparents (it came as a bit of a shock), first Tommy and Cerys due to have their baby boy Evan in January 2025, Zoe and Gheorghe announced they were also expecting baby Jackson in April 2025.

On the 26/10/24 at only 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant Cerys gave birth to Evan at York Hospital he weighted a tiny 2lb 2oz, as little as he was it wasn't going to stop him fighting, he was cared for at the SCBU York until finally the day came when he could be transferred to Scarborough just in time for Christmas.

Tommy and Cerys were able to stay overnight on the ward so they could stay with Evan, they were also given training ready for Evan coming home on oxygen. Evan was finally discharged from the unit on the 13th of February 2025.

On the 25/3/25 Zoe gave birth to Jackson at 36 weeks and 3 days weighing 5lb 2oz, just a little early he was looked after on the SCBU as a precaution for a short time, they received the most amazing care and reassurance that everything was ok and after some treatment for jaundice they were discharged.

Evan and Jackson are now settled at home.

Myself, Phil and all the family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at York and Scarborough hospitals for the care of Evan, Tommy, Cerys, Jackson, Zoe and Gheorghe you are all superstars.

please donate if you can any amount would be very much appreciated.
