Story
In March 2025 my brain tumor swelled up unexpectedly and paralysed my right hand side completely. I was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for emergency treatment and a world class neurosurgeon removed the tumor completely.
I was told that I wasn’t expected to recover much, if any mobility. But little by little, and with the help of an amazing physio and the support of a devoted husband I have and am still recovering. The gains are minuscule now as I am nearly recovered but they are still there. It feels as though a miracle has occurred.
Last year I did a charity walk raising a total of £670 for the Great Wilderness Challenge, which is held annually in Poolewe in the north west of Scotland. It is a huge event with over 400 participants walking or running a number of different routes and distances in the area. For more and full information about the event, click on this link:

This year, on Saturday 15th August, I am going to walk into the wilderness again, only this time I will walk for GAMS. The charity is entirely run by volunteers, nobody takes a salary so ALL funds raised will go directly to GAMS, so that every penny counts.
Last year I managed the 7 mile walk which looks very small on the map, but it is quite a challenge in places. This year I am committing to doing the 13 mile Circular Route – but not necessarily on the day. The reason for this is that there are many events running simultaneously so there are strict start and end times – and I’m not sure I can meet those. I will know closer to the time but if I feel that we can’t meet the deadline for finishing I will do the 7 mile walk again on the day.
BUT sometime (a nice day perhaps) in the month prior I will do the 13 mile Circular Route– with photographic evidence to be supplied of course!
Will you support me? It felt amazing last year to be walking for all that sponsorship, knowing that it would go to help others. Every single penny will be appreciated by me and I know by GAMS who will spend it wisely. Thank you.
