Story
I'm running the Cambridge Half Marathon for Wildtracks, an incredible rehabilitation centre for Belizean native wildlife.
Having spent a month working in Belize, Central America, with their rescued manatees, I am forever grateful for the work the centre does in rehabilitating endangered wildlife.
(For reference, manatees are huge herbivorous marine mammals, closely related to elephants? They are gorgeous gentle giants with the most incredible, unique personalities).
Paul and Zoe Walker, who run Wildtracks (recently awarded MBE's on the New Year Honours List, 2024), have an endless list of success story from across the last few decades, with 100% survival in manatees released back into the wild (compared with 13-50% in manatees released from the US).
The offspring of the 90 monkeys they have rehabbed and released have contributed to an incredible 200 individuals total since their monkey rehab program began, based on recent evidence collected from tracking expeditions.
Extremely grateful for any donations at all, the expenses of caring for hundreds of individual animals at any one time, many with medical needs, is immense.
