I am fortunate to be able to fundraise for Maternal Aid Association (MAA) and help MAA reach its ultimate goal of revolutionising maternal health.

MAA is a grassroots charity committed to improving maternal healthcare in rural settings.

A woman dies every 2 minutes from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Currently, 95% of maternal deaths happen in the developing world and 90% of these are preventable. According to the World Health Organisation, women in Bangladesh are 21 times more likely to die from maternal causes compared to the UK.

Since 2016, MAA has been working to empower women through education and implementing preventative medicine strategies through various projects. One of the project is JourneyMAA which I am hoping to be a part of and make a little change even in a mother's or daughter's life.

JourneyMaa offers UK students and young professionals the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh to:

- Provide educational workshops for mothers and local communities on safe delivery and maternal healthcare

- Oversee the essential life-saving work done at Maas Maternal Health Clinics

- Gain first-hand clinical experience of maternal care in urban and rural resource-poor settings

Money raised will go towards facilitating the Maa healthcamps that are run as part of JourneyMaa 2025.

In Surah Baqarah in the Holy Qur'an, Allah (SWT) says: "Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly—their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve." (2:274)
