Story
LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay.
I have recently entered the Leicester half marathon to help raise funds for LOROS where I work as a Registered Nurse. I have worked at LOROS since 2021 when I returned to nursing following the COVID outbreak as it holds a special place in my heart for two reasons. The first being a survivor of Ovarian Cancer in 2002, I wanted to give back to the people who were not as fortunate as myself and my original journey at LOROS began in 2003. The second reason is that LOROS gave my late husband a second chance when all else failed.
I am not a natural runner and even as a child have never been very good at any sports except swimming. I am now 60 years old and will be 61 when the event takes place. In January this year I have started the Couch to 5K in the hope that I will be ready by October, so wish me luck.
