The Big Half 2024 · 1 September 2024 ·

Little Angels (The Little Angelman Trust) was set up to raise awareness and money for those with AS. In a nut shell symptoms of AS are epilepsy, global developmental delays, sleep disorder, non verbal and requires 24 hour care for their life.

Story

After a very long stint of injuries (& more probably Age caused aches & pains) I've finally signed up to a challenge & will be running in the London Big Half on the 1st September 2024. I've even managed to persuade my Son Harry, whom prior to this has not even run a 5K, to sign up with me. The London Big Half is a Half Marathon, which is a reverse section of the London Marathon, that starts at the Iconic Tower of London & ends at the other iconic landmark the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

To give this run a meaning (& to stop me from backing out), I've decided to try & raise money & awareness for the charity 'The Little Angels', setup by Jason Hutt, who's personal story is quite something.

I was first introduced to to Jason & his charity 'The Little Angels' back in April 2023, when Jason visited our office & gave a very powerful & emotional presentation on his experiences with Angelman Syndrome & what his Charity is trying to achieve. Prior to that i had never heard of Angelman Syndrome (A very rare genetic disorder) or believe that i have even met anyone with it. AS is a disorder that affects the nervous system & causes severe physical & intellectual disability. A person with AS will have a near normal life expectancy & will need to have care for the rest of their life.

There is no cure for AS or much government funding for those families who have their own little Angels, so the Charity was setup to help other AS Families to access resources, equipment, support both practical & emotional which is not readily available via the NHS or other government schemes.

You can also find Jason's personal story in the above link & what drove him to setup the charity. His dedication to fund raising & the extreme challenges he's faced to raise money & awareness is incredible. I hope that my very modest Half Marathon in comparison can help with further fund/awareness raising.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for their support. Any amount given is appreciated, no matter how big or small.
