Story
This September Richard and Sian are embarking on a remarkable journey to cycle the length of the Loire, the longest river in France and the last major untamed river in Europe, in aid of an incredible local wildlife charity Wild Oxfordshire.
Our goal is 1,100 km of cycling in total which will include the 1000m ascent to the source in the Ardeche. No electric assistance. No porters. Our worldly goods packed into our paniers and no changes to the plan whatever the weather. It has taken a lot of planning and training.
This is an endurance trip with a difference! Please support us and follow us on social media - we will be writing about the sights and wildlife along the way.
Healthy rivers and the land around them are rich habitats for many creatures. We will be cycling through three nature parks and the Orleans forests. Cycling is our sustainable way of seeing, experiencing and celebrating nature up close, resonating with the crucial work of Wild Oxfordshire in delivering innovative nature conservation projects, advising grassroots groups, farmers and local government. Wild Oxfordshire also runs the best studied and documented Natural Flood Management project in lowland England, which is based around the River Evenlode tributary of the Thames.
We need to restore Nature! Your generous donation – no matter how big or small - will not only spur us on but provide Wild Oxfordshire with vital funds to carry on their impactful work in Oxfordshire.
