My sister Natasha and I are trekking across the desert together for a reason that runs far deeper than adventure.

We both live with FH (Familial Hypercholesterolaemia) — a genetic heart condition that has shaped our lives and forced us to face how fragile life can be. For me, that reality became overwhelming with a triple heart bypass, a moment that changed everything for us both. It brought fear, gratitude, and a deep awareness of how precious time really is.

For Natasha, FH is something she confronts constantly. Every two weeks, she injects herself with medication to protect her heart — a quiet but powerful reminder that this condition never takes a day off. It takes strength, discipline, and courage, even when no one else can see it.

This trek is something we are taking on together — a shared challenge rooted in resilience, love, and determination. It’s our way of honouring what we’ve been through, the strength it’s taken to keep going, and the bond that has carried us through some of our hardest moments.

We’re choosing to push ourselves through one of the toughest environments on earth to stand in solidarity with families facing something far tougher — childhood cancer. Through The Joshua Tree, those families receive compassion, emotional support, and practical help when they need it most.

Every donation helps fund counselling, wellbeing support, family sessions, and safe spaces where children and their families can feel supported, understood, and never alone.
