We work specifically with the Piam Brown Ward and Teenage and Young Adult Unit at Southampton General Hospital, who support children and young adults diagnosed with cancer, and their families, from across the South Coast. We offer practical, financial and memory making grants to these families.

Story

In May 2021 after a short period of illness our family received the devastating news that our son Reggie had cancer. A lengthy stay on the Piam Brown children's oncology ward at Southampton General meant we discovered the amazing charity Abby's Heroes. They are a charity that you wish you never had to know, but are forever grateful that you do! Their ethos mentioned below got our family through some very long dark days.

One of Abby's Heroes weekly treats for the children (and parents!) is Dominoes pizza and Ben & Jerrys ice cream. As I'm sure you are all aware, hospital food is not great, hospital food whilst undergoing chemotherapy is even less great. Reggie used to count down the days to the weekend as he knew these treats would be delivered to his bed!.

After numerous rounds of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of intensive Proton Beam therapy at The Christie in Manchester we received the fabulous news that Reggie was in remission. When we complete this ride Reggie will be fast approaching 5 years in remission.

Each year since Reggie's diagnosis, myself and my amazing friends have made it our mission to fund raise for Abbys Heroes. This year Reggie's Dad Luke, along with 2 of our amazing friends, Stu Norris and Si Abery will join me on one of my mad fundraising missions cycling from London to Amsterdam. 4 days of cycling, passing through 4 different countries ending in Amsterdam. What could go wrong !!

All funds raised will ensure that Abbys Heroes can continue to support families going through these very tough times.

The whole ethos of Abby's Heroes is to place our arm around the shoulders of these families and support them during this journey. We offer Financial Grants to help with the financial burden of having your child diagnosed, Practical support, Memory Making grants, Welfare Packs, Counselling service for the entire family, as well as two evening meals and a picnic lunch every week. Every single penny is vital to help Abby's Heroes provide these services.
