Story
Earlier this year, the fundraising team at FareShare South West put out a call for help to support a major new event, the Break the Cycle ride. We talked it over and decided it has been way too long since we have attempted anything as challenging as this. For a cause we are both passionate about, we have committed to cycle a total of 160 miles, including over 1.5 miles of vertical height gain in the Mendips.
With every £1 that you pledge FareShare South West can deliver four meals to a struggling family via our network of over 400 community groups. If we hit our target, we will be able to put 2000 meals on the table for children going hungry this summer and help take the pressure off their struggling parents.
Simon: “As well as volunteering and then working with the amazing team at FareShare South West, a big part of my motivation to do something is from this heart-wrenching cartoon about parents skipping meals to feed their children. The knowledge that many new parents like me are in this situation makes me think that the least I can do to give up my lunch breaks and Saturdays to train up for this ride. It’s time for me to step up, and then sit down for this most deserving cause.”
Owen: “I’m going to going to pause my bike making at Donard to make the journey across the Irish Sea for a glorious return to Bristol. I spent many happy years there including volunteering with Caring in Bristol. I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the impact of providing a hot meal to someone in need, the humanity and dignity that this helps to restore. I’m keen to get back in the saddle to do what I can to support FareShare South West’s fantastic work.”
Please contribute what you can to spur us on during the ride and to make the aching muscles and saddle sores bearable for a worthwhile cause!
