Story
Suicide remains the leading cause of death in adults under 35 in the UK, with someone dying every 75 minutes. Despite growing awareness, access to consistent and effective support is still far too limited. That is why The Listening Place exists.
I am running the Hackney Half Marathon to support them. I have run plenty over the years, but not a properly timed road half in a while, so am looking to run this in sub 2 hours.
The Listening Place provides free, ongoing, face-to-face support for people who feel suicidal, delivered by trained volunteers in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. People are supported for as long as they need it, helping people feel heard, understood and less alone at the times they need it most.
Their work is proven to reduce suicidal feelings significantly within months, and it costs less than £300 to support one person through that journey. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help them continue providing this life-saving support. Thank you!
