I’m Simon Lawrence, aged 65, and sport has been a huge part of my life for nearly 50 years. In 1979 I started playing football in the Maccabi Southern Football League and continued playing until 1995, when I thought my football 'career' was well and truly over.

Fortunately, the launch of the Maccabi Masters Football League in 2001 gave me the opportunity to play competitive football again and I have been playing in this competition ever since. Over the years, I have also had the privilege of representing Maccabi GB in Masters over-55 football squads, including at the 2019 Pan American Maccabi Games and the 2022 Maccabiah Games, where I was fortunate enough to win a bronze medal.

Alongside football, I’m a keen runner, having participated in the 2012 London Marathon, around 20 half marathons and countless 10k races. I’m obsessed with Parkrun and rarely miss an opportunity to add to my tally of 5k runs.

I am delighted to have been offered a charity place in the 2027 London Marathon for WAAMAD (We Are All Making A Difference), a fantastic charity where every penny raised goes directly to beneficiaries, supporting individuals and organisations in need and making a genuine difference in local communities.

Training for and completing the 26.2-mile challenge will be a significant undertaking but knowing that every mile can help support WAAMAD's important work makes the effort worthwhile.
