Walking the Wales Coast Path

We’re Mind in Gwent, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Today. Now. We help people across Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen by providing vital mental health services.

We've done it! We've completed 'climbing' our Everest, as a couple of days ago, we completed our trek up, down and along the full 870 miles of the glorious Wales Coast Path- although we measured it and have concluded it is actually over 920 miles!

We are a group of 20 or so friends (still) from school days in Newport in South Wales- all now in our 70th year. This has been quite a challenge, as technically in doing this, we have climbed the height of Everest- from sea level to the summit- not once but 3 and a half times.

It has taken several years, and prior to this year, we had raised over £11,000 for large charities such as Prostate Cancer, Huntingtons, MS, Parkinsons and BHF, all causes very close to our families and hearts. We have been truly humbled and encouraged by the generosity and support received.

This year, we are raising funds in memory of the wonderful Anne Wilson, who was a friend to us all, and who very sadly passed away in late 2024. Without her efforts, enthusiasm and organising, we would be a long way from finishing our challenge. She is greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

We have chosen to support, in her honour, the mental health charity Mind in Gwent. This charity does important work helping people from our home area of Wales, helping overcome barriers, stigma, loneliness and isolation.

This is our final year of fundraising, and we always intended to raise money for our home town of Newport, in our last campaign. Each of us feels strongly the desire to make a difference to our home town, and mental health charities are more in the front line than ever before. Newport has a real need for support in forming a mentally healthy city, whether it is through wellbeing and counselling services for adults, or children and young people services.

We are now just a few hundred pounds short of raising £10,000 (including the important giftaid) in Anne's memory, and this would be an amazing target to reach in her honour. A big thank you to everyone who has chosen to support us.
