Bnei Mitzvah challenge

The Pendsey Trust works with children and young people with diabetes in the developing world. Through our programme of sponsorship and grants, we provide medical care and educational scholarships to children and young people in developing countries, supporting them to eventually be self sufficient.

Story

Inspired by his own journey living with type 1 diabetes, and in his bar mitzvah year, Asher is raising money for children with type 1 diabetes to access lifesaving insulin and education, through the Pendsey Trust.

He'll be climbing Blencathra and Helvellyn peaks in the lake district over 2 days - a combined 1818m!

While he benefits from the incredible NHS and UK health infrastructure, it is assessed that worldwide at least 80,000-100,000 children’s lives are at risk from lack of access to insulin, and the average life expectancy of a child who has developed diabetes in the poorest areas is under a year.

The Pendsey Trust supports those with living diabetes from disadvantaged families by providing education. The aim is that one day these individuals will be able to get jobs which will enable them to pay for their medication and even give money back to support others with the condition.

Please give generously to support Asher's 2 day fundraising climb, and the Pendsey Trust.

The Pendsey Trust was inspired by the vision of Dr Pendsey, an Indian doctor who witnessed the deaths of two young girls, whose families simply could not afford the insulin they needed to survive.

He subsequently established the DREAM Trust, which has saved the lives of hundreds of children and adults with diabetes. Dr Pendsey appreciated that by giving a young diabetic girl a sewing machine and training her as a tailor, or sending a child with the condition to school instead of to work, gives them the chance of a healthy future where they can afford their own medication.
