Hello all I’m raising money for the Brompton Fountain by Climbing the O2 Arena on Saturday 6th June. The Royal Brompton means a lot to myself.

‘I was diagnosed with fallots of tetralogy back in 1988 and was 8 months old when I had my first op to remove the extra growth and patch the hole as my family and doctors at the time wanted me to live a life rather than have operations every few years and was closely monitored by doctors.

My surgeon at 10 months I think was Andrew Reddington who is now a professor and my consultant was Dr Rigby.

I had a small op with a camera put up my groin to check on my heart when I was 15 years old.

On 14th February 2007 I had my pulmonary valve replaced and my surgeon was Hideki Uemura and my consultant was Dr Uebing.

I’m now under Dr Kemp’s care and I have regular heart checkups. I was given an estimate that the heart valve would last 1-20 years and My heart valve is now 19 years old and is going strong.

I’m so greatful to all at Royal Brompton Hospital and I wouldn’t be here today without them.

The Brompton Fountain is a parent support charity for families whose children are being treated for cardiac and respiratory conditions at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust.

The Brompton Fountain was born from a need and desire on the part of the hospital and families to improve parent involvement with patient care. A meeting in November 2003, organised by the hospital, brought together staff and parents to discuss how better to improve the experience for paediatric patients and their families. As a result of this, a group of parents went on to form The Brompton Fountain.

With the money we receive from fundraising and donations we ensure children undergoing heart surgery and treatment for cardiac and respiratory conditions have the equipment and resources they need to aid their recovery and brighten their admission.
