Three peaks challenge · 20 June 2024

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

June 20th is the longest day of the year, and starting on this day I will be attempting to complete the three peaks challenge and to raise awareness of the condition Long Covid.

In March 2023 it was estimated that there were 1.9 million self reported cases of Long Covid. Besides the health complications long covid suffers faced, they also had to deal with people being dismissive about the validity of their health complications.

Many of the symptoms of Long Covid are similar to what is experienced by sufferers of ME/CFS, and for that reason I'm asking people to make a donation to ME Research UK if they are able to. As stated on their website; The principal aim of ME Research UK is to commission and fund high-quality scientific (biomedical) investigation into the causes, consequences and treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also known as ME/CFS). This is a debilitating illness which affects between 120,000 and 240,000 people in the UK, but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised.
