Let me tell you my son’s story…. 💙
My son, Kyle was born December 2004. It was all meant to be a joyful moment. However, Kyle experienced life changing effects during his birth.
Kyle survived this; he certainly is a fighter. It wasn’t until several months later we noticed his movements were not progressing well for his age and expected development.
Then there was a further fight to get a doctor to listen to us saying something was not right. This led to Kyle being one of the youngest children to be diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy – Hemi Plegia.
This basically means he suffered irreversible brain damage at birth and part of his brain is missing. This damage has affected his nervous system that led to high tone spasms in his left arm and affects his left leg when walking. It also affects his short-term memory, behaviour and cramps.
This was the worst news no parent wants to hear.
All the worries about his future. Medical professionals even said he wouldn’t walk, talk or eat properly.
What do you do at this point? There was an is no handbook how to look after a disabled child.
Instantly we started researching what we could to improve his life.
This led us to discovering Hemi Help charity; a small charity who were absolutely amazing.
They offered support advice and access to other parents going through the same overwhelming and challenging journey as your child is growing.
As Kyle grew up, he kept his fighting attitude and proved many medical professionals wrong about what he would be able to do, like walking.
Throughout Kyle‘s life the charity now part of the charity I’m representing for the 2025 London Marathon have been crucial for their support.
The charity even arranged for their team to attend Kyle school on a teacher training day to explain his condition which is not just physical.
We cannot thank them enough for all that they have done and still do for others.
Kyle is now thriving and turning 20 in December and has achieved so much including:
• learning to drive
• studying at college
• plays Xbox one handed and wins!
and even struts out a sub-30-minute 5K run.
He is simply amazing so please if you can support me to raise money for contact charity, so they can give the amazing support to other parents who threw no fault of their own have a child diagnosed with this life changing disability.
Thank you.
Simon
