London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·

The National Literacy Trust aims to create a society in which everyone has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that they need to fulfil their own and, ultimately, the nation’s potential.

Story

I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in aid of the National Literacy Trust because I believe that every child should have the opportunity to live a happy and successful life.

Currently, children from disadvantaged backgrounds start school with literacy skills that are 19 months behind their more privileged peers, and they find it hard to catch up, meaning they’re less likely to achieve their potential at school and beyond.

Not only that, but they may miss out on the alloyed joy of the reading stories. Stories that help them understand their own lives or other lives to which they may aspire.

The National Literacy Trust support communities where as many as one in three people have low levels of literacy. They research and develop the most effective tools and techniques for teachers and parents to increase literacy. They provide resources to help engage and inspire children, especially those who’ve had a tough start in life.

But they need your support to continue their work. Anything you can give is valuable – thank you for your generosity!
