Story
I am the Chair of Trustees of the Herts Disability Sports Foundation (HDSF), which is a small, welcoming local charity that offers a wide range fun sports and activities to anyone with a disability or additional need who needs support to access activities.
We don’t only offer equipment, we offer support, encouragement, enthusiasm, we help people exercise their independence – literally
We enable our clients to be involved in activities they never thought possible, from adapted bikes, to being on the water on a paddle board or in our amazing bell boats. Some of our clients come regularly and some for a one off experience, but all get tremendous pleasure and a huge boost to their well being.
We go to primary schools in the most deprived areas of Hertfordshire to teach children to learn to ride a bike. Last year we also provided over 400 reconditioned bikes along with brand new helmets. Riding a bike is a life skill everybody should have the opportunity to learn and it certainly brings joy.
All donations help us to keep costs low for participants and keep bringing more opportunities for our clients.
We held a Wheelathon on Tuesday 4th August at which I cycled around the 400metre track on many of the adapted bikes that we offer, as well as a penny farthing (that was just some fun for me).
Keeping on the theme of cycling, last weekend I cycled to Holland via the ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland completing over 285 miles. All costs have been paid by me personally.
Sports are very important to me and I have come to really appreciate the value of the work that HDSF do.
If you able to help me to support this fantastic charity by making a donation I would be really grateful.
