Story

I am raising funds to support the HCEO, a charity that supports elderly people by reducing isolation through bringing them together to share life.

Founded in 1985 London the charity promotes health and wellbeing by providing the elderly community a welcoming day center with a lunch club and social activities.

Services and Activities:

- Our friends' garden initiative

- Lunch Club

- Raising dementia awareness

- Memory group activities

- Wellbeing and exercise

I have family that suffer with Dementia that are supported by the charity.

Dementia is a syndrome (a group of related symptoms) associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning. There are many different causes of dementia, and many different types. - NHS 2026

There are different types of Dementia that affects everyone is different ways, however here are some common symptoms:

- memory loss

- difficulty concentrating

- finding it hard to carry out familiar daily tasks, such as getting confused over the correct change when shopping

- struggling to follow a conversation or find the right word

- being confused about time and place

- mood changes

These symptoms are often mild and may get worse only very gradually. It's often termed "mild cognitive impairment" (MCI) as the symptoms are not severe enough to be diagnosed as dementia. - NHS 2026

You might not notice these symptoms if you have them, and family and friends may not notice or take them seriously for some time. In some people, these symptoms will remain the same and not worsen. But some people with MCI will go on to develop dementia. - NHS 2026

Dementia is a very common syndrome.
