This year, I’ve chosen to fast during Ramadan in order to show my support and admiration not only to my Muslim brothers and sisters but also the millions of people around the world who take part in this sacred month. While I am not Muslim myself, I admire what Ramadan represents - reflection, discipline, gratitude, compassion, and generosity.

From sunrise to sunset, fasting is more than abstaining from food and drink. It’s about mindfulness. It’s about stepping away from comfort to better understand resilience. It’s about appreciating the blessings we often take for granted. Most importantly, it’s about caring for others.

Ramadan is also a time when charitable giving is at it’s peak. Inspired by that spirit, I am using this month not only as a personal challenge, but as an opportunity to give back. While I may experience temporary hunger each day, many people around the world face hunger and hardship without choice. That perspective has moved me to take action.

Through this fundraiser, I hope to turn intention into impact. Every donation — no matter the size — will go towards Gift For Humanity who will distribute food parcels to those who are less fortunate around the world.

As thousands of Syrian refugees attempt to rebuild their lives by returning to their former homes, one of the biggest issues they face is food insecurity. After years of war and hardship, over half of Syria’s population is food insecure (WFP).
