Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

On May 5th, I am running Belfast City Marathon to raise money for the Lewy Body Society. The Lewy Body Society was founded to support research into Lewy body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease. Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of dementia, but it is not very well known. It is a complex and challenging condition that affects memory, thinking, movement, sleep and behaviour.

I’m currently completing a PhD in the area of Lewy body dementia, and I see firsthand the potential that research has to support those affected by the disease.

Having lost my dad to young-onset dementia, I’d just like to do something small to try and support research for change. Every little helps, and I’d be really grateful for any support! Thank you! 💙
