Story
Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues-
Last year we lost our beautiful daughter and sister, Grace. We remain heartbroken and will be lost forever without her.
Life is difficult but as my son James has said many times- "we must make something good come from the loss of our brave and beautiful Grace". James our son, and a devoted brother founded Grace O'Malley-Kumar Foundation with a view to creating a legacy for his sister Grace, to perpetuate her memory and her values.
We are determined to make a change in legislation and aspects of police and medical code of practice to right the wrongs and fill the gaps that led to us losing our daughter. Every child should be safe.
I cannot put into words how devastated we are, but I am determined to show solidarity with all of the wonderful friends, family in Ireland and UK and University of Nottingham students who have done so much to raise funds for Grace's Foundation.
I am going to participate in the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham next weekend on Sunday, 29th September.
The course of the route will take me along Ilkeston Road in Nottingham city near the University of Nottingham campus. The road where my beautiful baby girl lost her life on 13th June 2023. I know the very spot.
I have never been much of a runner but I know Grace would be proud of me. Grace and James are the elite athletes in our house but I am getting up and doing my bit.
Grace was a medical student and future doctor, a wonderful person who was our first pride and joy. (James came later!)
I reach out to friends and colleagues. I reach out to all of you- be you a mother, father, sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparent, Godchild, cousin or friend to help in this fundraiser and support my endeavour.
Grace met some of you. If you did not meet her you certainly heard me regale her accomplishments. I would like to say that I am most grateful for your letters and messages of kindness and love that we have received over the past year.
Wish me luck. Do not ask for my finish time but be reassured it will be my personal best.
