Story

The work that samaritans do is so, so, so important in saving many lives. So, I am hiking Snowdon at Sunrise (I have to register at 1.30am...on Saturday 6th July, if you know me you will know much much I like my sleep 😴 , but in comparison to facing suicidal thoughts, this is nothing).

Side note...This will be my first full mountain hike since breaking my ankle too! So wish me luck!

As a survivor of suicide this is something very close to my heart. I would be hugely grateful if you could donate anything at all. THANK YOU.

Every £5 raised could help answer a potentially life-saving call.

A bit about mental health, suicide and Samaritans...

5284 suicides were recorded in 2022 in the UK.

1 in 15 people attempt suicide. In December 2018, I was on of those people.

Samaritans respond to a call every 10 seconds.

Samaritans are here, day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.

Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, they're taking action to prevent the crisis.

They give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. And they encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.

In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans are working with people who are going through a difficult time and training others to do the same.

Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide.

Looking at the bigger picture....

The Mental Health of Children and Young People in England 2023 report, published by NHS England, found that 20.3% of eight to 16-year-olds had a probable mental disorder in 2023. Among 17 to 19-year-olds, the proportion was 23.3%, while in 20 to 25-year-olds it was 21.7%.

Every £5 raised could help answer a potentially life-saving call.
