My son Declan was diagnosed with esophagal cancer on 31 August 2025. He presented to hospital with an infection and difficulty swallowing. Declan's completed four cycles of aggressive chemotherapy up to December 2025. Fortunately the chemotherapy worked in shrinking the tumour and the couple of lymph nodes affected. He had life saving and life changing surgery on 8th January 2026 . He doesn't need any further treatment. We are so grateful for the staff in the Cancer Centre Belfast who looked after Declan and I so well. We are so blessed Declan was under the care of Dr Ronan Gray and his specialist team . Their skills and expertise in treating esophagal cancer has undoubtedly saved Declan's life.

We want to raise some funds to support the excellent work at the Cancer Centre and to say a massive thank you for all their care and support. On Saturday 30 May 2026 a group of us will abseil down the Belfast City Hospital yellow tower block. Our fundraising team doing the abseil, includes me and Declan, obviously, Kevin O'Hare, Chris Turley, Darren Toner, Henry McLoughlin, Anne Collins, Naomi O'Hare , Aislinn McCartan, Conor McCartan, Barrie Morgan, and Joseph Lennon.
