Story
Phew, made it. Segedunum to Bowness on Solway. 84 miles from 0' to 879' and back down to 0'! Walking with 8 friends has been a bit of a habit over the years and definitely 'the team' got me there, as usual! All 'striders' of determination and fun.
Thank you so very much.
For everyone who has donated to date, £4,000+, thank you so very, very much.
This walk is to raise funds for a nurse’s salary in Gaza. The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group is the only charitable provider of expert eye care in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. The Hospital Group has been treating patients regardless of their ethnicity, religion or ability to pay for over 140 years.

Two weeks ago the Gaza Hospital began Outreach Services delivering some basic services in Central and Southern Gaza across three field clinics. 20 staff members, including sixteen nurses and doctors, three clinical coordinators and one communications point-person have already screened 900 patients - a true testament to the outstanding dedication of our staff, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Part of the Order of St John, the Hospital is part of a 1,000 year history of humanitarian care in the Middle East.
“Furthermore, St John and the work of the Eye Hospital Group has played a pivotal role in the personal and professional life of hundreds of medical professionals, shaping their experiences, working with numerous colleagues across difficult cultural and political borders in the service of our patients. “ Dr David Verity, Hospitaller.
The Guild has raised money for the Eye Hospital for nearly 100 years. Each year we agree where money raised is most needed and this year it is for the salaries of nurses in Gaza.
